Psychotherapy Practicum Student, MDiv (Clinical Counselling) Candidate
Accepting New Clients
“Healing is a journey of grace, courage, and hope, where faith can become a source of strength along the way.”
Mariam is a Master of Divinity (Clinical Counselling) candidate and psychotherapy practicum student with a passion for supporting individuals through healing, growth, and meaningful life change. Her approach is compassionate, relational, trauma-informed, and holistic, recognizing that emotional well-being can be influenced by our experiences, relationships, culture, values, and spirituality.
Mariam has a particular interest in supporting women and survivors of domestic violence, as well as adolescents and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, attachment concerns, emotional regulation, self-esteem, boundaries, and major life transitions. She strives to provide a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace, develop greater insight into patterns affecting their lives and relationships, and recognize the strengths and resources they already carry.
Her developing therapeutic approach is person-centred and trauma-informed, integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), DBT-informed strategies, mindfulness-based practices, attachment perspectives, and principles of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Mariam believes therapy should be tailored to each individual rather than applying one approach to every client.
Her training and experience also include Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), PREPARE/ENRICH, pastoral care, and community outreach. These experiences contribute to her understanding of relationships, communication, family dynamics, cultural diversity, and the importance of approaching each person within the context of their unique life story.
Mariam’s Master of Divinity education also provides a foundation for integrating psychological and spiritual dimensions of care. For clients who desire it, she offers Christian faith-based counselling and welcomes the exploration of faith, spiritual values, meaning, and one’s relationship with God as part of the therapeutic process. Spiritual integration is always client-led, and Mariam respects the beliefs, culture, values, and worldview of every person she works with.
At the heart of her approach is creating a therapeutic relationship in which clients feel safe, respected, genuinely heard, and supported as they move toward healing, resilience, and meaningful change.
Mariam is completing her Master of Divinity in Clinical Counselling and brings a diverse background in counselling education, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), PREPARE/ENRICH training, pastoral care, community outreach, and professional experience in financial services. Her developing clinical interests include trauma-informed care, women’s mental health, domestic violence recovery, anxiety, depression, attachment and relationship concerns, and life transitions. She brings an appreciation for the cultural, socioeconomic, relational, and spiritual contexts that can shape a person’s experiences and well-being.

Therapy with Mariam is relational and trauma-informed: sessions move at the client’s pace, drawing on CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Emotion-Focused work rather than one fixed method. Her work suits people carrying trauma they have named but not yet moved through, particularly women rebuilding after domestic violence, and she offers Christian faith-based counselling for those who want it.
